The Third Island is a documentary, introduced for the first time in the main section of “Monditalia XIV, Mostra Internazionale di Architettura- la Biennale di Venezia”. It was conceived for the 50th Anniversary of the beginning of the constructions of the A3 section of the Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway (1965) and for the 20th Anniversary of the opening of the harbor in Gioia Tauro (1965). From October 2014 to May 2015 a range of knowledge and educational activities were set, concerning various field of knowledge such as geopolitics, politics, economy, architecture and urbanity. The exhibition ended with a huge photographic campaign that has reached all the Calabria region.

The exhibition will show an extract of the documentary, be it structured on two different levels: an horizontal level, following the narration of the book. The images will flow over two different times. The observer will be able to interact with the work, following the story through original images, archives and written detailed studies. The second level is vertical, showing photos and images on a wall, contributing to change the route, leading the observer away from the linear narration.

The audience will have the possibility to get the book OIGON. 1 The Third Island, published by Planar Books, were the first and detailed outcomes of the Osservatorio are showed; the book will appear as a hybrid, because of its multidisciplinary character.
